Nationwide last week reported that annual house price inflation turned positive at 2% for the first time since
March 2008. The increase for Kent and for new homes in particular was higher.
The worry that the house you buy is worth less in the future should now be a thing of the past with both
Savills and Knight Frank projecting significant house price growth over the next few years. This is largely
based on supply and demand with The Town and Country Association reporting that England's shortfall in housing
will be one million units by next year with the greatest demand in the South East.
Rightmove report that with a lack of housing coming on to the market that the balance of power is swinging
towards sellers and that there is a "window of opportunity for sellers". Knight Frank in their October report on
housing say that real demand is strong but supply in the wider market is low.
In particular, it is a window of opportunity for "empty nesters" wishing to downsize who have held back not wanting
to sell in a down market. With a scarcity of large houses on the market now is very much the time to sell up and acquire
